Operation Christmas Child started in 1993 with the idea of filling shoeboxes with gifts and surprising children around the world. Every year since, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 188 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox.
They ship these simple gifts to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
